I've made a decision

In my last entry I was lamenting that I would have to charge upcoming dental work. After getting out of debt last year, I SO hate to do that.

I've decided that I will take the money from my medical premium account to pay for it. I still have half a year to make it up, since the premium is not due until January.

That will force me to save, and I won't be paying interest.

Why didn't I think of that before?

Good for you. I've done that for a number of years now. I have escrow accounts and if I need to borrow, I borrow from them. You are becoming your own banker and lender. It will encourage you to pay it back. Not only that; if it's an interest bearing account - you'll be getting less interest that won't become taxable to you.

Oh, yes, do anything but charge that to a high interest credit card. Yikes.

I think I may have to do the same. I am stressed by potential dental bills for the older child, but I realize I have $1k sitting in the medical deductible fund, and my HMO is VERY slow to bill. So I may be able to pull from there and not notice much difference. I've been saving for the full deductible (in case we reach it in 2008, which is unknown for now), but it takes them months (if not years) to bill. So I realize I have some decent float there.

Seems fitting to put medical money to dental money.
