Chicago checking in

February 2nd, 2011 at 01:49 pm

Yes, Chicago is really buried. I took some pictures, but as I am too technologically challenged to post pictures, I'll just tell you -- the snowplow has pushed the snow so high that I have complete privacy with my blinds open. The snowbank is at least 12 feet high, I would say. My patio is a couple feet deep. I can't open the patio door. I am listening to the news and I heard that someone was swept into the lake and died. It makes me so sad. It also makes me sad to think that my feral cats must surely be dead, too. How can they live through this? But they have surprised me before.

My lunch yesterday -- I had more leftover pasta with spinach and asiago, Activia yogurt, and oatmeal cookies. I also ate my breakfast at work -- oatmeal, which I keep on hand in my desk. I'll be home today, of course. In fact, the way things look, I don't know when I'll get out again.

I made a breakfast casserole this morning. I do that often -- it's a little work to put together, but then it's an easy breakfast the next two days. Today's casserole was eggs, bacon, onions, cheese, stale bread and milk. I also put together the first stage of chicken chili -- just combined the cooked chicken, onion, pepper, cream of chicken soup and water, and then put it in the freezer. Next week I'll add the corn and beans (I bought the wrong ones this week). Later I'm going to bake some cupcakes for lunches. I basically got the cake mix free -- it was packed with some pretty cake pans I bought at Goodwill (all of it still in the box; never used). The mix had a freshness date, which is still good, and the bag hasn't been punctured or anything, so I'm going to bake it. How can I resist, it's chocolate!

Well, everybody in the swath of this storm, be safe!

Glad you checked in CB! And glad you weren't on Lake Shore Drive which certainly looked like a nightmare!
    Stay cozy--

We saw on the news about how bad Chicago was hit. We got between 4-6 inches of snow downstate, but a thick layer of ice underneath it. Hopefully this is it for bad storms this winter.

Geez what is going on with the weather, it has been terrible. Hopefully you can get out soon and that your cat will be okay.

Maybe the cats will do like sled dogs in Alaska and bury themselves in the snow. I hope you see them soon!

Been my experience that feral cats go for foundations and crawl spaces and generally have very good instincts. That's where their prey is after all. As long as its not mating season (when they get stupid) and they aren't too starved or hurt they've got a shot.
Sister tells me that she got 16 inches of snow in Milwaukee.
