The $300 challenge

July 6th, 2012 at 04:44 pm

Today three automatic payments hit -- Nicor (gas) - $17, AAA - $57, and Netflix $8.

None of these come out of my $300 challenge.

A few days ago my semi-annual insurance payment was withdrawn -- $379.

I also gave $10 to a fund for a bereaved co-worker. I am on the fence as to whether this "counts." In the past couple months I've included small gifts in the $300 challenge, but I wouldn't count, say, a $100 wedding present. I suppose that is inconsistent. But my logic is, a large gift would be a planned-for expense while the small gifts are incidental.

So, counting the $10, I have $64 for the rest of the month. Yikes!

It does look like one of my planned dinners out won't materialize until August. That will help.

I also think my groceries will last pretty well for the month. After a week, the freezer is still packed. So, while success looks bleak at this point, I MIGHT just make it!
