It wasn't such a quiet weekend

February 11th, 2013 at 12:29 am

On Saturday my son called and we decided it was a good day to get together to celebrate his recent birthday. I baked a cake called "Amalgamation Cake" -- among its unusual ingredients are strawberry jam, dried cranberries and walnuts, hence its name. I took the cake to his place and we ordered the free Papa John's pizza for lunch. I gave him a Kohl's gift card and a Darden's gift card, since he is moving so soon -- it just didn't seem right to give him something to pack!

He told me he very nearly bought a house in Florida when he went down to look for a place to rent. His in-laws were all for it, and offering to co-sign. At the last minute they saw something in the contract they didn't like, so the deal fell apart. I'm relieved. I don't think they are ready to buy a house, and I'm not sure they want a long-term commitment in Florida. (But maybe that's me Smile)

I spent the afternoon there and played with my granddaughter, who is just blooming!

Today I was cooking up the stuff from my fridge that needed to be used and I realized I would have a lot of food and should share it. So I invited my other son's family over for pigs-in-the-blanket and Mexican cheese soup. They spent the afternoon here.

It's been a lovely weekend, soon to be topped off by Downton Abbey!

Spending this weekend:

$5 for pizza delivery and tip
$25 for gift card
$4.50 for laundry

Rainy weather is wiping away the snow, but I hear more flurries are expected tomorrow. Sigh.
