A rainy day in the big city

April 24th, 2013 at 03:13 pm

Lost my entry -- forgot to copy it.

Here is the brief version --

I walked around in the rain for about an hour yesterday in downtown Chicago. Finally got my bearings but was late for my appointment. Thank goodness it was warmer than it is today!

I gave away $5.50 to street people and found .27 on the sidewalk.

I put $5 on my CTA pass and bought lunch for $3. Once home, I bought six filter cartridges for the aquarium for $17, which saved me about $5.

Breakfast at the downtown station this morning - $4. I WILL address the muffin problem this weekend.

It is COLD today, and I'm tired of it!

And the rain ... I wish it would go away for once and for all. Soccer practices continue and there is a tremendous amount of mud on clothing and cleats. Bah!

Sounds like you might need to make your own muffins at home to have with you each morning.

Yes, it seems I should! I can't make muffins as good as the bakery, however!

Yes you can make delicious muffins. Sorry to make suggestions after the fact...Google Maps.com for the postal code and address you want. You can get written GPS type outline from Downtown Stn. [whatever is appropriate] to destination. Don't leave home without it! After the Boston incident, I think we all need to be more security conscious. We are likely more vulnerable than we realize and being lost adds a further negative element.

I actually did get directions from Google maps, but I think I must have walked past my turn. Nothing looks the same in real life as it does on Google maps! Also I couldn't find the street names very easily, and the el system was confusing -- downtown Chicago is not designed for newbies! I will learn as I do it more.
