Weekend Stuff

July 7th, 2013 at 05:44 pm

It's been a quiet weekend. My son's family is out of town, so I am just sticking around home. I did a couple of loads of laundry. I am cooking all the perishable stuff in my fridge, getting ready to leave for a week. This morning I had migas for breakfast and I will have carrot soup for lunch. I froze some cooked peppers and onions. Yesterday I made a quesadilla that used up a lot of odds and ends.

I've started to pack -- have all the outfits set aside -- next I'll do the underwear, accessories and toiletries. I want to get it all in one rolling bag. Still planning to take the CTA, but I have to make sure they will take a credit card. I am without cash, and I hate it! If the CTA doesn't take credit, I will have to do the taxi -- and make sure THEY will take credit.

I still feel icky from my cold -- I have a cough that won't give up. I just sent a note to my doctor on the website, basically begging for antibiotics. We'll see how that goes. I hope he doesn't require me to come in -- that will mean losing a half-day of work. But I think it's come to the point where I need chemical intervention.

It's very warm today, but I haven't turned on the air conditioners. I have the windows open. It's not too bad.

I got an email from our property management company talking about the "dramatic car fire" in front of our building yesterday morning at 3am. I didn't hear a thing. I didn't go out yesterday, so didn't notice anything. I'm going to go down and check right after this. My car is parked in front -- better make sure I didn't get any damage. (And if it was MY car on fire, I'm going to blow a gasket!)

I need to get a pedicure -- my last one has grown out -- my nails are too long and are two-tone. I was going to do it yesterday, but when I started reading reviews of nail places around here, I got freaked out by all the negative reviews. Decided to do it on Monday at lunchtime at the place I already know.

Just checked it out. My car is fine -- it was parked about five car lengths away. Lots of glass and charred marks on the road, a burning smell still hanging in the air. Wow! I did a quick search and found out that it was a stolen car that was dumped and torched. Holy cow!

Have you Googled CTA for transit info? You are far braver than I. I can imagine too many scenarios where having a $100. cash was important. If you don't need the cash it can be returned to the CU a/c when you return. BTW, most CUs have an affiliation with other named CUs and you can use those ATMs wherever you are if the correct symbol is shown on the machine. Have a terrif trip

My son called and left a message expressing concern about taking the CTA. He is worried about me navigating the staircases with a suitcase. I do have problems with stairs, mostly from a bad ankle break several years ago. Now I am leaning again toward the taxi, despite the cost.

And I'm going to go get some cash at the grocery store.

Glad your car is fine. Hope your trip is good and I think the taxi will be worth the money. Sometimes you have to take care of yourself.
