Unsettling news at work

March 24th, 2014 at 03:49 pm

With a week left on the challenge, I am at $0, even counting the $10 in extra income this month.

I had a bad day on Friday. I got some bad news at work, which may affect my job -- not so much danger of losing it, but danger of being thrown more work and responsibility than I can handle. I will know more today.

Anyway, it threw me into an emotional tailspin, so I turned to my comfort zones -- food and Goodwill. I did keep it down to $16 spending, so I'm not reporting a real lapse, so much as a blip.

And my Goodwill trip yielded some nice future gifts, especially for my granddaughter -- some brand new clothes in her next size up.

For myself, I bought a pair of jeans. Yeah, I just bought a pair a matter of weeks ago, but I'm going to have to donate them back. They are too low-cut, and I am just too old for that. I spend every minute pulling down my shirt while I'm wearing them. Enough of that. The "new" pair are classic Lee's, much better for me.

My upsetting work news made me leave my phone charger at work, so I wasted a lot of gas charging my phone while driving around this weekend.

The good thing was I didn't grocery shop, and I did all the cooking I was planning, so I am well-fixed for all my meals this week.

With so many in this community losing their jobs, or on the brink of it, it seems foolish to be upset that my job may be TOO MUCH. Heck, for all I know, I may lose my job -- I don't know how this is going to play out. As I say, I'll know more today.

But listen to this -- since Friday I've found .78! Three quarters and three pennies. Love it!

I'm sorry Frown I know how much upset at the job can upset life.
I hope that what you learn today won't be as awful as it could be.
Sounds like a good haul at Goodwill. Smile Thinking about you today and hoping everything goes well.
    Let us know.

"my comfort zones -- food and Goodwill." You and me both, sister. Ha-ha-ha!... I hit Aldi and Goodwill yesterday. Was your Goodwill jam-packed with new women's summer blouses and dresses from Target, as mine was yesterday?

I think a lot of people have been overworked in their jobs the last several years and it is wearing people down. The imbalances of overwork & unemployment or underemployment are just crazy. What the heck can we do about this?!

I feel for you. My husband is overworked with his job with the Army. I don't see it letting up. It is finding the balance with it all. I hope you keep your job and can find the balance needed.

I hope the work news isn't as bad as you anticipate, and you can stick it out until you retire. Glad you weren't on the train that crashed in Chicago...I immediately thought of you when I saw the story. When I read the time it occurred, I thought the chances of you being on it were slim, 3 am, thank goodness!

I think Joan and ccf are both right. There isn't much more many people can give at work with nothing coming back. It's nice to have cheap vices.

{{hugs}} I hope the news doesn't turn out to be too bad.

I am sorry your work news was unsettling. It seems like every place is trying to more with less. Hope things work out better than you anticipate.

I hear ya. We are being roiled by a request to process faster. (rolleyes here.) 'Cause you know we are all putting our feet up and watching lolcats or something.

Baked goods and Value Village for me. Haven't had a chance to get any exercise to moderate the baked goods.

Congrats on the .78 ... Its a good haul in my lights too!

Thank you, everyone! It seems the decisions haven't been made yet, so I'm playing a waiting game now.

Bluebird, thank you for thinking of me! I do that, too -- wonder about SA friends when things happen around the country. This particular train goes to the airport so I wouldn't have been on it, at any time! Sounds like they are looking into the possibility that the driver dozed off -- another case of somebody working too many hours!

Joan, I did not see any summer dresses from Target, but there was a lot of new children's clothing from Old Navy!
