Conference Prep

October 2nd, 2014 at 06:38 pm

I'm going to a one-day conference tomorrow -- and I'm also helping to put it on, since I'm on the board. I'm knee-deep in last-minute tasks. I'm in charge of making the name tags, registration, collecting fees, and reimbursing the speakers and other participants. I'm also dealing with several late registrants. We always let them in after we close registration, so I'm not sure why we even close. It's just more trouble and manual work.

I'm sure it will go well -- it always does -- but I'll be glad when it's over.

This evening I'm driving into the city to have dinner with the three speakers -- not just me, but other board members as well. We will comp the speakers' dinners, but the board members are going Dutch. Oh well, it will be fun, and I understand the food is good at Ditka's.

Then tomorrow, I will leave straight from the conference to drive to my brother's house in Michigan. It is his birthday on Sunday. I'm taking him a bottle of Layer Cake wine -- thought the name was fitting. They have a built-in wine cabinet in their new house that needs filling up.

In other news, I did finish my job application the other day (it was a pretty intense online process) so now I'm back on hold for a bit. I noticed that the posting was dated to expire in March. I don't know if that means they will take that long to fill it -- surely not? Maybe it's just a nice, long span of time to give them plenty of room to maneuver.
