Yesterday's Spending and Birthday Musing

November 3rd, 2015 at 04:09 pm

Yesterday's spending was minimal. I did a load of laundry ($1.50). I also had dinner at my meeting, but the cost was picked up by the board. I did put a dollar in the tip jar. And I dropped off my prescription, but since I am transferring from another pharmacy, which was already closed at the time, it won't be ready until today, so there was no cost there (yet!) And I found a dime!

November is the month of birthdays for me. My son, my grandson, my granddaughter, and my BFF all have November birthdays. With Christmas following close behind, it's a difficult time, financially.

I already have a game for my son, and a science set for my grandson, which I picked up at garage sales this summer. In both cases I need to add something else. I already gave my granddaughter a doll high chair (also a garage sale item) but I'm sure that was given too early to be remembered as a birthday gift. I think I will order a nightgown for her on Amazon -- or check them out at Kohls. She likes princess nightgowns, the gaudier the better.

I also have garage sale gifts for my BFF -- some knitted slipper socks and a double frame with a holly pattern. Both new, by the way. I may pick up some other little thing.

BFF is not coming this week after all, by the way. Her son and DIL are going through some tough times, and she is needed to be on hand for babysitting. She may come next week, if things smooth out.

The cream of celery soup turned out good, though thinner than I expected. I will have a bowl today, and then it will go into the freezer. The vegetable beef soup is not going into the freezer, because it has potatoes in it. So I will keep eating it! Today, though, for a change, I'll cook some down and serve over mashed potatoes.

Today's menu:

Breakfast: Toast w/peanut butter and jelly
Lunch: Cream of celery soup and grilled cheese sandwich
Dinner: Potato bowl w/veggie beef topping

My brother's birthday is tomorrow - only November birthday for me. That would be a lot of birthdays to have so close to the holidays.

    I don't understand. Potatoes can't be frozen?
