Garage Sales

September 2nd, 2017 at 09:43 pm

C and I went to garage sales today. I had some luck!

Ceramic Teapot (gift) - $7
Cinderella Ornament (gift) - $1
Paris Ornament (gift) - $1
Minnie Mouse wallet (gift) - $1
Book - .50
Beatrix Potter figurines - $10
Wooden Desk Organizer - $2

The Beatrix Potter figurines were $10 for 10. I figure I can sell them for $5-10 apiece. If I have no luck with that, I will give them to my niece for her daughter's room.

After the sales, we went to Panera for lunch, which cost me $10. It was a good morning.

I got a notice that I earned $2.60 for reducing my energy usage during Peak Savings Day. It was pretty easy, considering I wasn't at home!

No other news, financial or otherwise.

I, like Patient Saver, am worried about SecretarySaving. I hope she posts soon.

I hope she is okay too. With my editing job, I heard from someone in her area today who had just got internet service back this morning.

I'd like to do better on buying gifts well in advance of distribution. I need help and suggestions. Can you explain how you manage gift? Do you have a specific 'holding' station? How do I avoid discovering one errant gift or even group of gifts were forgotten? Do you gift wrap now? Do you keep a list for each recipient so each of grandchildren for example, get age and interest appropriate gifts without feeling you favor others?

I do have a holding station. It is a big laundry basket in my storage closet. When a birthday -- or Christmas -- approaches, I pull it out and go through all the items. I don't gift wrap in advance. Sometimes I have more for one recipient than another, and I will balance it out with targeted retail shopping. For instance, I send a Christmas box to my Florida kids, and I usually have to buy some things in order to give them all gifts equivalent in value. That means only some gifts were deeply discounted, but every little bit helps. I aim for equivalent value, not equivalent spending, if you know what I mean.

If a gift is too big for my laundry basket, I will leave a note to myself in the basket to remind me where I stowed it away!
