Slept In!

April 13th, 2018 at 03:10 pm

I had a rocky night, but slept in this morning. It felt weird.

I'm going to skip the gym, since I really prefer to go early in the morning. I don't have grandma duty today, so I have the whole day to tackle some projects. My place needs a good cleaning, for one.

I signed up for two more mystery shop companies yesterday, but still have had no luck finding an oil change offer for a Toyota. I do have a $10 coupon for a local gas station, so I might just get it done there. I'll also look around to see if JiffyLube or Midas is having any deals. It really is time to get this done.

I also got a ValuPak offer to get a $20 gift card for signing for Sam's $45 membership. I think I will do that. I was considering a Sam's membership, anyway. Surely savings on gas and pet supplies alone will make it worthwhile. As I recall, household supplies and medications are good deals, too.

No spending yesterday. It was warm and lovely, and my grandsons played outside -- but unfortunately, the younger one fell on his face and bloodied his mouth. He was terrified that his braces were broken, but they were okay, and the bleeding stopped pretty quickly. I took him (and his brother of course) home for some healing sherbet. Smile And I called his mom, of course, but she didn't think any further intervention was needed.

I thawed some milk to make cream soup the other day (which I didn't do) and I noticed this morning that it's still sitting there in the fridge. So I think I'll make some mac & cheese. Though I think I COULD refreeze milk. Not sure on that one.

My lovely new pans are both looking used already. I burned popcorn in one and rice in the other. I guess I need to relearn how to cook in stainless steel with no protective inner coating. And I think I'm done with regular popcorn. It doesn't pop any more. Does all the fresh popcorn get packaged as microwave popcorn, and the old stuff get put into bags? Anyway, I'm done, I'm not trying it again. If I burn microwave popcorn, at least I can just throw the bag away.

We have a Sam's membership. We find that we always save enough to cover the cost of the membership. They also offer new member deals on the website that you can print and get in store. When I did it, it was a free pie and a 40 pack of water for like a dollar. Not sure what they are offering now.

Good luck with the oil change. I need to find a deal myself!!

One of those companies I gave you does Jiffy Lube. Not sure how long you can wait, but if you can I would wait and keep an eye on the companies. The Jiffy Lube go quick, and I am betting you just missed this month's round.

You can microwave regular popcorn. We used to put it in brown paper bags to microwave. You have to stand there and turn the microwave off as the popping sounds decrease. If you try to pop every last kernel, you will overcook the popped corn. Pour the contents of bag in a bowl and have some melted butter ready. Toss and eat!

When your pans get crusty looking from burning something, you can use ingredients you probably have on hand already to get them clean again. First, sprinkle baking soda in the pan, then a squirt of dish soap, vinegar, and water. Let it sit for awhile. The worse the pan is, the longer you need to let it sit. Then, when you come back, you should just be able to rinse the pan off, or at the most, do some light scrubbing.

I used to microwave regular popcorn in paper bags. I'll try that again, with the kernels I think are stale. Maybe it will work!

I did the vinegar, baking powder, and even the fabric softener sheet method. The pans came out okay, certainly usable, just not new and shiny like they were. Frown

Sam's is worth it for us too. Some of our staples are member's mark TP, kitchen garbage bags, the tub of fresh organic baby spinach for $4, and the rotisserie chicken for $5.

Sorry about your pans. I read a "recipe" for popcorn and it said to put the oil in a pan and heat it with two kernels. When both kernels pop, then put in the rest and put the lid on and you have less "old maids." Microwave popcorn packaged is supposed to have some bad chemicals in it. If you don't want to use a pan, maybe find an air popper.

Thanks, Rob -- or Deb, is it? I'm done with trying to pop it in a pan. But I'm finding the paper bag in the microwave method is working pretty well! I would have been open to an air popper, but I just don't have the space to store anything new.
