Dingbat expenses

May 20th, 2006 at 04:25 pm

I've been such a digbat today. First, I left my purse at a friend's house this morning, and had to waste gas making a trip back to get it. It's not terribly far, but enough to think about the gas you're using.

Then, I fell for a deceptive display at Kroger. There was a sign advertising Tyson chicken thighs, buy one package get one free. Right under the sign were piles of Perdue chicken thighs. Big packages, too. I wasted $7 buying chicken thighs at full price. Didn't realize it till I got home and looked at the receipt. Sigh.

I've got to get my head on straight!

That used to happen to me a lot, because grocery stores really want to trick you sometimes.

What I do now is if I have sale item(s) I'm iffy about, I put it in a back corner of my grocery cart or basket. When I unload my groceries on the belt, I unload that corner last and watch it as it rings up. That way if it rings up an unexpected price, I can ask the cashier about it and if necessary put it back with minimal fuss.
