Bird's nest

On Saturday morning I peeked up in the space above the attic to check out the bird's nest. It was there all right, a big mound in the corner, like a coconut. The birds (which have vacated it) apparently had access to it only from the outside, which is good; the attic is not fouled with their droppings. I truly meant to remove it myself, but the stepladder I borrowed was not quite tall enough to boost me safely into the space. And I'm not as agile as I used to be. So I will call my handyman to do it. I will need his expertise to seal off the area where they got in, anyway. I will also need to call a heating/cooling technician to address the furnace and air conditioner problems. Sigh. More money out.

I packed up most of my kitchen stuff today. Then I went out to dinner with a friend (~$9), and stopped at the grocery store to buy some yogurt and frozen dinners for the next two weeks (~$24). I'm done cooking, until I'm in North Carolina.

The packing is going more slowly than I'd like, but I'm taking the time to number the boxes and make lists of what's in each box. I'm also sorting out stuff for the garage sale and putting prices on them. So it's slow, but I feel it will pay off in the end -- if I get it done on time!

    Well, I tried to edit, but it didn't work. I mean the space above the garage -- not above the attic! That would be a little high!

    A pair of cardinals built a nest in a tall rhododendron bush in front of my house, but their timing was bad, just before the painter came to work on my house. I don't know whether all his comings and goings kept them from roosting on eggs possibly already laid, or maybe (hopefully) they never got that far. I was surprised that after the painting was done, the cardinal would still come to the nest, so i started avoiding using the front door and going thru my garage door instead. But she was only there periodically, so i'm not really sure what's going on. Maybe she was roosting on eggs that will never hatch becus she had to leave them for the 9 days the painter was here. I'm sort of afraid to get up there and look at the nest, and in any event, gaining access to the nest would mean partially destroying it, so guess i'll wait til the end of the season.

    Glad your packing is going well. Where are you moving from, anyway?

    I'm pricing for a garage sale as well. Our only problem is we currently have no garage - the space that used to be the garage in the basement was turned into living space before we moved here- which makes it difficult to set up a garage sale. I'm just pricing it back into boxes and will pull it all out the day of - which I'm hoping to do the weekend after father's day. Hoo-hum. I'm hoping all the guys will be home those days and I can get Hubster to run the cashbox while I pull more stuff out and price it as we go along. I have to get some breathing room in my basement or I'm gonna P*O*P!!!

    We also had nest building going on in our eave vents - Hubster bought some screening and put it up inside the attic so perhaps it won't be a problem any longer - the birdies were also getting into my dryer vent hose so we screened it off too!

    It sounds like you are making great progress on getting to the moving. Great that you are treating yourself to frozen meals and not hassling with trying to cook AND move! Keep us updated!
