This is Why I Go to Goodwill!

July 18th, 2014 at 02:58 pm

Last night I went to Goodwill and scored two wonderful finds! I found a Baccarat frog paperweight for $3. Perfect condition. This little item retailed for $500 when it was produced and is selling on eBay now for $150 or so. I'll enjoy it for a while but it's eventually going on the selling block.

The other find was a perfect yellow Fiesta teapot. Also $3. That will be a Christmas gift for my DIL. It's worth about $50.

I also found some clothes for the grandkids, some wrap, some decorative file boxes, and two scarves for myself. Altogether I spent $20.

I filled up the gas tank ($37) and went to Wal-Mart for household & pet supplies ($50).

I got home pretty late, and I was tempted the whole way to stop for fast food. I didn't. I was too tired to cook at home, but I had cereal, which was fine. Tonight I'll make the broccoli cheese soup I planned for last night.

And I found .02!

I love your Goodwill. If you see another Fiesta teapot for $3, holler and I'll drive to Chicago for it! Ours is not nearly that rewarding

Wow, I never find items like Fiesta at our Goodwills, sometimes I think the employees pick over the items before they ever hit the floor. I love Fiesta pottery, what a score!

I heard at our Goodwill that the employees are only able to buy items on their days off, and that is from the sales floor just like everyone else. I'd be selling that paperweight ASAP if it were me. But I don't like extra stuff to dust around, so it would just be clutter in my home.

    I will, EC!

It is very rare to find two such good items in one trip. I believe our Goodwill employees, too, are not allowed to buy, unless they are doing it on their own time. In this case, I would say the employees didn't realize what they had, because the price was way too low!

CCF, I'm holding off on selling until I retire a year from now, when I'll have plenty of time on my hands. Right now I am too stressed with work and commuting to really get into eBay.

I have a friend who works part-time at Goodwill in addition to her full-time job. She said items have to go on the floor for a minimum of 24 hours before employees can buy them and then they have to do so on their time off.

LAL, I used to operate an antiques booth. That's how I learned about the values of collectibles.
