Nothing Happened

August 19th, 2014 at 02:19 pm

Sometimes I feel like my blog is like Seinfeld -- a blog about nothing. Not nearly as amusing, of course!

No, nothing happened. After my free meals yesterday, I finished the work day, rode home, found a penny outside Walgreen's, ate a salad for dinner, drank a glass of wine and went to bed.

Nothing interesting in the mail. No enlightening conversations. No ah-ha moments.

So I am just going to stop and appreciate the wonderful blah-ness of my life right now. I think change will be coming soon enough, with all its drama and uncertainty. I'm going to enjoy the peace and quiet, while it lasts!

I am starting to think about how to spend $2000 a month come September (to earn my Discover reward). I believe I have to do it through January in order to get the $400 bonus. I'm going to check out whether I can charge my monthly assessment fees. I also wonder whether I can charge my mortgage payment? Also, I have some expensive items to purchase, so this will be as good a time as any to at least get some of them. I need a new mattress set, a new dining room set, I need to reupholster my sofa, and I need to get a washer/dryer installed (if I can figure out where to put it). If I decide to keep my car, I should get the exhaust system replaced.

I wish I had a crystal ball and could see whether I will get a new job or retire, because that would certainly color some of my decisions! But I just won't know for a while, so I'll have to be content to wait it out!

Blah-ness sounds divine! I can't wait to stop and just relax, not having any really pressing worries or huge changes looming.

Me three. You were the 2nd blogger I went back to read from the start (after the very inspiring ceejay) and i love reading about your life in Chicago. Maybe because you remind me of my mum, a teacher (although you're a bit younger than she would have been now :-) )

Enjoy the calm. You could take a couple of photos to Home Depot, Lowes type store to discuss the possibility of installing a stacked W/D type unit. In our area it's popular to install these in the bathrm. In Europe they seem to always install these in the kitchen. When we lived in China we were surprised that the washer [no dryers] was on the balcony and they all use a very efficient, bolted to a wall pull-up outdoor clothes line.

I figure whether you stay in your current job, change to a new job in the offing or retire, you'll still need to wash clothes. It likely adds value to your condo. Planning a new reno adds excitement and could benefit you via Discover Card challenge $ 400. benefit.

Don't spend just because of the reward. If you were really going to buy a dining set, ect before January than go for it, but I wouldn't recommend buying if the time isn't right.

All the things I mentioned have been on my "to buy" list for quite a while. But still, I will only buy if it's the right item at the right price, and I won't exceed the $2,000. And if I can't meet the terms, I will sacrifice the bonus.

That said, I do need to get big-ticket items out of the way while I am still working, which is what spurred my interest in this particular bonus.

Sometimes a period of time with nothing really happening is good - gives us the rest we need for the times things are moving and shaking! Smile
