The Perfect Gift

August 10th, 2019 at 04:13 pm

It's my birthday tomorrow. But today I got the perfect gift from a couple of friends. They sent me a big basket full of apples, oranges, grapes, pineapple, crackers, cookies, salami, and cheese. Just when I was worrying about making my groceries last! And I swear I never breathed a word to them about my budget worries this month, though they did know in general about my gap year coming to an end.

I also got a package from my Florida son and DIL with two new books. Ah, what a pleasant weekend I will have!

No spending today, other than laundry. I didn't even pay to park at the library, choosing instead to walk the two blocks from free parking.

I got a letter from SS today verifying my first payment on September 18. They also said, "In your first payment, you will receive the difference between the benefits already paid and those now due." I have no idea what that means. I guess I'll find out.

Can't believe I'm going to be 70! Just doesn't seem real.

It sounds to me like SS is giving you "back pay" from a certain date. If that's true, that first one may be a little higher, but it's just a guess.

Yay for the food! Did it come from a particular company? This is always something I think about for my parents at Christmas and never pull the trigger on.

I dislike the letters the VA sends us for education benefits. The wording is atrocious. Luckily I understand what they mean, but it's such gibberish sometimes. I really should post it for all to see. I mean any college graduate could write a better explanation letter. I hope it makes sense when you see the payment.

Thank you for the birthday wishes!

CLL, I am hoping that it will mean a paycheck that is a little higher! I think that may be the case, because when I talked to an SS agent in June, she said that no matter when the first payment came, I would get my money dating back to my birthday.

CCF, the basket came from a Chicago business called the Tea Rose Flower Shop. They do have a website but I assume they do mostly local business. But I can attest the food is good! I tasted the pineapple and grapes this morning.
