And now for the next phase...

June 4th, 2007 at 10:08 pm

Well, now that I've sold my house, I'm on to my next phase of frantic busyness -- packing. I packed 16 boxes this weekend, but I've only just begun.

Recapping my May expenses, the first bit of good news is that I spent about $1000 less in May than I did in April. However, April was a really high-spending month, well over average. In April I spent $3873; in May it was $2886. I spent quite a bit less in home improvement -- though it was still over $400. Other areas where I improved were utilities, vet/pet supplies, gifts, groceries, vacation/travel, gas, miscellaneous, household supplies, and fees/services. I spent more on loan repayment (that's good!), furniture/equipment, lawn/garden, medical/health, eating out, garbage, personal, and entertainment. Just the same on the mortgage, car payment, insurance, car repair/maintenance, and snacks.

I have a new category: moving expenses. The other day I spent ~$150 for an airline ticket for my son to use after he drives the truck to my new home in North Carolina. Today I spent ~$650 to rent the truck. I got a 10% discount for using the online registration with Penske.

I will be so glad when it's all over!

I know that you must be relieved and I know that the packing is a big job, but you are finally realizing what you have wanted for quite a while. Have you already bought another place and how far are you from your destination now. I think that it's all exciting and I'm happy for you.

I don't have to buy a new house -- I'm moving in with my cousin -- into a separate suite in her house. She has some health issues and I have some money issues, so together we can help each other out!

Are you a AAA member? If so, you can get an additional 12% discount from Penske, for a total discount of 22%. Come to think of it, it might be worth paying the AAA annual fee for one year for an extra $78 in savings! [I booked our moving truck on-line w/ Penske and we are AAA members.]

How nice that you sold your place and are off to a new adventure. Sounds like you and your cousin will have a mutually beneficial arrangement. Enjoy!

Can I tell out he saving grace that it takes a lot longer to unpack than to pack? I was unpacking some boxes this weekend and wondered how in the heck I found the time to pack them. Then I see all the crap I threw in there - oh yeah - unpacking takes 10 times as long. LOL.

But congrats on the fast house sale - WOW! & good luck packing and moving - not fun!

Thanks for the AAA tip. I'll call and see if they will re-do my contract. I am a member.

Aleta, I see I forgot to tell you how far away my new home is. I am living in Indiana and moving to the Asheville area of North Carolina.

One thing I would recommend is that you pack a bedroom box that has one set of sheets, pillow case and a blanket or two so that you can immediately do up your bed the day you move in. And also a bathroom box with your most used items. Both well labelled. Saves a lot of searching later on.
