No-spend week

January 26th, 2009 at 03:57 pm

Well, I'm determined to spend nothing and go nowhere till I get paid. Which I think will be next Monday (since the 31st falls on a Saturday).

As I planned, I called the dentist's office early this morning and left a message on their machine saying that I wouldn't be able to make it in. I hope they won't charge me for a cancelled appointment. We'll see.

When I opened my e-mail, I found that I sold TWO books on half.com. Well, there goes no spending. I had to print mailing labels via PayPal: $4.82 total. I had just barely enough in my checking account, but I also transferred $5 from savings just to be safe. I will walk the packages to the nearest post office, which is about a 15-minute walk each way. I can use the exercise. Exciting to know I will get a little deposit soon from the sales.

Yesterday my sister and her husband came over for cards, and they brought a tin of cookies, some cheese dip and crackers, and a banana nut muffin for my breakfast this morning. Guess they are worried about me! I was grateful, but I want them to worry about themselves, too.

Is payment social security? Does it ever get paid early, such as if the 1st falls on a weekend? Just curious. My DH paycheck will be in the bank this Friday, for his Feb 1st payment. Thought maybe they did similar things. Good luck with the no spend week.

I am with you on a NSW. This past weekend we spent all the money budgeted for Friday-Thursday. Not a big deal since we fueled the car, bought groceries, made our church donation, and had a family outing. There simply isn't any money left to do anything. I figure my house will be really clean, and I will get some stitching done. Good luck!

Social security no longer pays on the 1st of the month. You get paid according to your birthday. My check always is deposited on the 4th Wednesday of the month.

Ima is correct about the SS mailing dates... it started in 1997. Here is a
Text is link and Link is http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/calendar.htm
link that explains when checks are mailed (according to your birthday.)

~Carolina Bound, I know you are too young for SS, but it's possible your pension could come through on Friday, the 30th. It might be worth calling. My pension is arriving on Friday.

My Mom gets her SS on the 3rd of the month. And in September 2007, because the 3rd was Labor Day, her check was direct deposited on August 31st!

So yes, if your "deposit" day falls on a weekend and/or a holiday, it will be deposited early. HTH

As an addendum, my Mom did not starting collecting SS until 2005 and she has always/still receives it on the 3rd of the month.

M E 2 - Sounds like your mom also gets SSI (Supplemental Security Income) which is always mailed on the 3rd. This is not the same as regular Social Security, which is mailed according to your birthday, like Ima said.

It is a pension payment, not social security, so I'm not sure what they will do. I get direct deposit. I don't think they've ever made it early.

Anyway, I don't think a few more days will matter. I've got lots to eat and plenty of stuff to do here at home.

Nope, my Mom does NOT receive SSI. But, by process of elimination, lol, I deduced that because she is drawing on my late Father's SS (they were married at the time of his death) and he DID collect SS before 1997, she must have defaulted to his (original) date. Also, both of their birthdates are after the 10th of the month.
