A stress-free Christmas?

November 30th, 2010 at 04:38 pm

During my lunch hour yesterday I handily spent $276 cyber-shopping from Amazon. That bought gifts for my two sons, one of my DIL’s, and my two grandsons. Tonight I plan to spend another $50-60 at BB&B for my other DIL. The Groupon I bought to use at Nordstrom Rack, I will use for myself, since my DILs had specific requests that I am pleased to fulfill. Have to remember to use that by December 31! The $50 Macy’s card from MyPoints I will give to my ex and his wife, since (first of all) they will be at the gift opening, and (second of all) they have been very kind to me this year and deserve some recognition. I already have my gifts for my DIL’s mother and my BFF. On Christmas Day I will transfer some cash into my sister’s account, since that is what she always needs. I still want to put together some stockings for Christmas Day (our actual family gift opening will be December 18).

So I’m almost done. Cyber-shopping sure makes it fast. Now I’m just waiting for it all to come in the mail.

I have reached the point where my Discover card is “full” – that is, the total is as much as I can pay off in one month. So from now on – until this billing cycle is over -- I am going on a cash basis for everything. I have $145 tucked away for Christmas, plus $32 in my purse and $238 in checking, so I should be just fine. All the bills are paid. The only “bill” yet to come is my booth rental, and I never know what that will be until it comes, since sales are subtracted from it.

Is this a stress-free Christmas? Maybe so!

I want to recognize your efforts to extend love and kindness to your ex and his wife. I have an idea that the kindness they've shown to you in this past year is a "return" on your willingness to "pass/re-pass" and to "let bygones be bygones". What a blessing it must be to your mutual children to know that Mom/Dad/step-parents will be doing their best to demonstrate "peace on Earth, good will to men" during the Christmas gathering(s). May God's richest blessings be yours this holiday season!

I wonder why they (Nordstrom's) made the expiration date so short? Were they hoping people wouldn't notice, and let it expire?

Good job on the shopping (and ditto to what mimipaula said.)

Thank you, mimipaula. We have been divorced a long time, and things were certainly not smooth at first, but we have finally evolved to just being old friends. I know a lot of people never get there, though.

As for the Nordstrom groupon -- I suppose because it is 50% off they don't want to make it too extensive. I will definitely remember to use it!

I bought my granddaughter one of those Vtech story things with the pen from Amazon and got $40.00 off for getting an Amazon visa. Note to self: Cancel Visa. You have done a great job. I am hoping for stress-free too! Now if I can just get DH to get the lights up this weekend!
