I went to a one-on-one meeting at a university (fairly) nearby to learn how to take over the reins of Treasurer for my professional organization.
I took the train -- two-hour trip each way. Did a conference call, some intense training, and then a nice lunch. Went home after lunch but stopped at my office on the way back to drop off a huge armload of papers, and caught the tail end of an emergency meeting. Just some of the usual fires to put out, but it was good I was there.
It cost me an extra $3 on the way out (on top of my monthly train pass) but on the way back only $1, since I got off at the midway point and then got back on again.
I bought breakfast at the station's Corner Bakery ($4) and lunch was $12 -- wonderful veggie soup and and a BLT.
I was pretty drained when I got home, but I think I am going to enjoy being Treasurer. You know I like working with money! I am going to learn a lot more about financial reports. If I weren't a few years away from retirement I would say it's good for my resume!
In other news, my son came over the other night with a huge box of food they don't want to move to Florida -- pantry items -- and he also brought over, and hooked up, a monitor and keyboard to my laptop. It will be nice to have the ease of a desktop computer at home. And the food is going to ease my grocery shopping for quite a while. My pantry is now stuffed!
