I Won't Be Spending Today

July 31st, 2013 at 01:13 pm

So I'll do my July recap.

Housing - $2123 (includes semi-annual property tax)
Gifts - $317
Vacation - $297
Medical/Health - $215
Fees/Services - $155 (AAA & lawyer's fee)
Fares/Parking - $153
Eating Out - $130
Groceries - $107
Utilities - $97
Entertainment - $34
Gas - $30
Vet/Pet Supplies - $15
Laundry - $15
Furnishings/Equipment - $11
Personal - $9
Miscellaneous - $9
Clothing - $4
Household Supplies - $4

Grand Total - $3726

Once again, too high. But I had the property taxes to pay, a vacation, a gift to my son, an unexpected fare payment, a doctor's bill, a lawyer's fee, and it was time to renew AAA. The eating out total is high, but a big chunk of that was for the hibachi dinner which was a sort of payment for services rendered.

The good news is, it looks like I'll have about $350 to transfer to my slush fund, as long as nothing else unexpected happens before pay day on the 15th.

Next Monday I am moving into a smaller office at the other end of the hall. I started packing yesterday. I threw away a ton of stuff. I will only be able to take my bookcase, not my file cabinet. I may have to figure out a different configuration of desk and computer table as well, due to the narrowness of the space. I might have to put my computer on the desk. The only configuration I have figured out so far will give everyone walking by a clear view of my computer screen, which I don't like.

The good part (if there is one) is that I'll have a better view, and at least I don't have to move into shared space or a cubicle or an open area.

I have quite a few plants which will have to find new homes.

Anyway, the purge felt good. There was a lot of stuff I never used (inherited from my predecessor) that I was only keeping "just in case." Since three bosses have left in my four years here, I don't think anyone's going to be asking about old meetings and lists. Everything that's important has been saved electronically.

Good job on the purge!! I worked on my desk here at home yesterday and made very good progress. It felt good, too.

Moving office is so much work but at least you can dispose of un-needed stuff that has morphed into clutter without emotional strings to hamper you. I wonder if you would consider incorporating any Feng Shui principles of space usage in your new office. It's very practical and details are available on-line. I agree it's not a good idea to have your computer screen visible to all who walk by. Having a live plant is great for air quality. Is there any way to hang from wall or ceiling [pulley]. ...just a thought

It always feels good to declutter. Plus, moving (offices or homes) is a chance to do things differently and newly - always exciting.

You could get a privacy filter for your computer monitor screen. It makes it so that you can only see what is on the monitor from a narrow angle, one of being seated directly before it. From any other angle your monitor looks black. My sleep doctor's office uses them to prevent anyone from seeing someone else's medical informatio and I've looked at them from various angles and can never see what is on screen so they really do work.

Robin, is it something you put on the screen or is it software?
