Birthday & Weekend Spending

August 12th, 2013 at 05:57 pm

Yesterday was my birthday. My son and his family came over with a homemade cake and ordered my favorite pizza. Then they set to work and hung all the pictures in my condo. It was a lot of work -- took all afternoon, but the place now looks warm and homey. What a difference! They also brought me a picture of a new train bag they ordered for me -- it hasn't arrived yet! But it looks beautiful. Red leather with lots of pockets and dividers. It'll be great for my commute.

Now that the wall hangings are up I will finally post some pictures of my condo. Not today, though.

My Florida son sent me a Jib Jab of his daughter (who can't walk yet) dancing around. Very cute. I was so glad he respected my wish not to buy me a present. They need to get back on track now that he is working. I told him his new job was the best birthday present I could have.

So -- lots of spending has happened. I went to garage sales with DIL on Saturday and spent $24. Got a step stool, a cute wooden chair (free!), toys for the toy box, a Pampered Chef springform pan set (new), some colored bottles for my window, a beach bag, a purse, and a new boxed set of play food which I will save as a gift for my granddaughter. Later in the day I spent $24 at the grocery, and $44 at Kohl's for new underwear -- my birthday present to myself. I bought new panties online not too long ago, but I hate them. They are small and stretchy and the waistband rolls down like a window shade. I'm just going to keep them as back-ups, since I can't really give them to anyone else, having been worn. I am so much happier with the panties I bought yesterday.

On the day we hung the pictures, I spent $42 on new frames and command strips from Target. I spent $3 on laundry. Today I sent my cousin $34 for our annual family football pool, and $40 to pay her back for the dinner I had with her father at his retirement home, which automatically went onto her tab. I also spent $16 on donuts and cider for the office (our tradition here is to bring treats on your own birthday).

On Saturday night got dinner at McDonald's for $1.10, using a winning coupon for the fries and buying the cheddar-onion burger from the $1 menu.

I think that's it! I have a medical bill to pay, but it will come out of flexible spending. And I'm seeing the doctor today (followup on bronchitis) so I'll probably be generating a new bill as well.

Pay day is Thursday, and barring any surprises, I plan to put $300 into savings.

Just an idea, but I've found that yard sales are treasure troves for frames. Also spray paint can make the worst frame look brand new. Just remember to do multiple light coats. The surest way to screw up spray painting is to try to cover too much, too quickly and cause drips.

I'm similar; I've hung the 5 biggest things, but most everything else is in boxes. My plan is to get picture rails. Happy birthday!
