No-Spend Day

July 22nd, 2014 at 02:16 pm

Yesterday was a no-spend day. A rarity in a high-spend month!

But this morning I bought my train pass, so that's the end of my "streak." Smile I had to stand in a long line, and I almost missed the train. Kind of foolish, since I have another whole week in which to buy it, but my experience is that the lines just get longer and longer.

Last night I made tuna melts on crescent rolls. Two servings went into the freezer. I'm very well fixed for lunches now. I've been methodically freezing portions of virtually every meal I've made recently. It certainly makes the mornings easier, when I just grab something from the freezer and stick it in my lunch bag.

I went to bed really early last night. I wish I could say I slept the night through, but I had some wakeful times. I did not have the air conditioner on, but used the ceiling fan. It keeps the room comfortable, but it does make my hair tickle my face, which is kind of distracting! I also have a bit of a headache, and I wonder if the fan is responsible for that.

Today is supposed to be the hottest day yet this year, so I guess I'll have the air on tonight!

Stay cool! Great plan to freeze leftovers and take for lunch. I'm glad it is working for you. I'm sure that will save you quite a bit of cash in the long run if you can keep it up.

Freezing meals is a great idea. I try to freeze a single serving meal or two every time I cook dinner. It is fast, tasty and nutritious and better than anything you can buy at a fast food place. This is also how I keep my husband fed while I'm away from home so much.

Some meals have so many ingredients you end up with too many portions. I portion them out for days I'm late or too cranky to cook. I like to make heart healthy muffins and 'breakfast' cookies as we get bored with cereal or toasted breads. I can't seem to get portions right for AM smoothies so I've been freezing leftovers in plastic picnic glasses. They've been a 9 PM favoured, sherbert-like snack.
