Not Much to Report

July 19th, 2015 at 03:28 pm

There's not much to report today, but I like to stay in the habit of daily entries.

I brought up the 42-lb. bag of kitty litter this morning. With the dolly, it wasn't too bad. Reminded me that I should use the dolly more often. It has heavier wheels than my little cart, and therefore takes the stairs more easily.

I've had a sinus headache for days now, so I used the PurMist this morning. I feel a little better, but I think I will use it again this evening before bed.

I need to exercise today. Yesterday I stopped in at the senior center to inquire about exercise classes and fitness room access. The guy at the desk knew nothing but I got online to figure it out. It looks like, if I get a senior resident's membership of $30 per year, that will qualify me to get a fitness room membership for $115 a year. That's a pretty good price, but if I want to take a yoga class, for instance, there is an additional $90 fee for 20 sessions. Sigh. Not quite the bargain I was hoping for.

I think today, anyway, I will go to the mall and walk. It is way too hot and muggy to walk outside.

I had a delightful breakfast this morning of potato pancakes and applesauce. I love being at home to make meals and eat them on the spot, rather than all the prep and brown-bagging I had to do pre-retirement!

I too need to get back to a routine exercise regime. Walking these dogs I'm currently dog sitting is not enough. I seem to spend too much time and effort wrangling these pugs pups into their halters!

I wonder if you've any Service Organization's supported Senior Programs possibly by Lions, Rotary, Optimists, etc for senior fitness programs. Does the government offer a tax deduction for the cost of Fitness Programs? [one was announced here this summer] Have you looked at Library fitness/exercise DVDs? Have you tried any WIIs games like baseball, bowling, etc? I'm certain there are slightly used WIIs with lots of fun fitness programs for very reasonable cost. It does require making it part of your daily routine to be of benefit.

Do nearby bowling lanes offer Senior leagues? It doesn't feel like exercise, meet new potential friends, often at easy park shopping mall location.

I hear you on the sinus headache thing - mines coming back full force, even with daily Allegra D.

That stinks about $90 for yoga on top of the membership costs. Hopefully you can find something else more reasonable.

I always buy the 42 lb box of cat litter, but it is hard to get into and out of the car. A dolly is a great idea! Or maybe one of those things my dad used to have to take file boxes to court...

PS - my daughter is also having really bad allergies (I think maybe partly caused by the cat; ugh). We've just switched her from Claritin to Zyrtec because we read that Claritin can cause anxiety. But the Zyrtec hasn't kicked in yet.

Sorry about the sinus headache...do you think it is weather related? DH has sinus problems all the time. He had surgery a number of years ago and within 3 months, it was just as bad as before. I know the weather really does a number on him.

I took a yoga class at my local junior college for about $40 for 16 weeks. I liked it a great deal! And it was a great deal, too!

I really enjoy Leslie Sansone's walk at home dvds.
