Bad News

December 13th, 2016 at 01:04 pm

It took so long to get information on my DIL's mother's condition -- I was afraid it would be bad news. And it is, and I was knocked for a loop. She has bile duct cancer and is meeting with a surgeon today to see if the tumor can be removed. I looked it up online, and shouldn't have. Apparently, it rare for this type of tumor to be removable, and the survival rates are quite low.

She is more than my DIL's mother -- she has become my good friend, and she is deeply loved by my grandchildren. I am just heartsick.

After work today I'm going to take her some potato soup and beef stroganoff. She does not cook much, and might appreciate some homemade comfort food.

Don't know what is going to happen with the cruise.

I am meeting with a pet care supplier on Sunday, in case the cruise goes ahead as planned.

It is turning very, very cold here, after our first big snowfall. Between that, my cold, and this bad news, I am feeling overwhelmed and despondent.

{{{Hugs}}} so sad to learn your friend and DIL's mom faces such a major battle. As a survivor I know the importance of a positive attitude and the love and encouragement offered openly and unendingly by extended family and friends.

I'm so sorry to hear about your DIL's mom. It sounds like she has a loving and caring family to support her. Prayers and hugs to you and your family.

Regarding the cruise, did you all purchase insurance? In a case like this, it would sure qualify to cancel/refund. On the other hand, if you don't end up going and don't have insurance, the airline may issue a credit. Not sure what the cruise line will do, perhaps, they would be understanding and issue a credit also.

Oh no. Frown I hate cancer! Just got word today that a college classmate (who I didn't know very well) died of stomach cancer. Age 45. It feels like more people I know have died of cancer than anything else in the last five years. The odds can be terrifying for some types. But they are just odds, so best wishes your friend will pull through.

I'm sorry. When my sister was diagnosed with that type of cancer I stayed off the internet. It is one of the rarer cancers so their are not a lot of good treatments.
