Yesterday's Spending

September 5th, 2018 at 12:28 pm

Well, it was an expensive day for me, and variables have suddenly shot up to 85%.

I went to the doctor (a $5 copay) and he prescribed Celebrex, which, it turned out, cost $125. However, after taking only one, I can say it may be worth it.

I mailed my Florida grandson's birthday package for $12.

I went to Sam's and bought Lactaid for $19 and groceries for $15.

When I picked up my grandson after school, we went for treats at McDonalds for $3.

And I did a load of laundry for $1.50.

I don't like seeing my variables this high this early, and I fear I will not stay under this month, especially with a one-tank trip planned this weekend.

I have another doctor's appointment this morning -- this time an opthalmologist. When my GP heard about the peripheral flashes I experienced this summer, he insisted upon it. Called it an urgent visit. So that will be another $50, and I imagine he will not find anything beyond what the optometrist found, but at least I'll have a doctor at the ready if I do get a retinal tear down the road.

I will try to get x-rays done on my hips at the same facility. My doctor also wants me to do physical therapy, but at $45 a shot, I'm not going to do that in addition to the Celebrex. I am still doing the exercises from the last round, and I am skeptical as to whether they really have anything new for me.

I accepted two more offers from eBay for $15.

I put on a couple more items, but will not put on as many as I thought I would. I have learned to look first, see how many of the same item is already there, whether there are any bids, etc. I think I'm pretty much done, except for watching for bids and offers. The items I have decided not to put on eBay will go straight to the garage sale now.

There might be ways to lower the cost of this drug. Is it not on your Plan D drug supplement in a lower tier? Looks like there is a generic version of this drug.

Try GoodRX for a better cash price. https://www.goodrx.com/celebrex?drug-name=celebrex

    Also shop multiple pharmacies.

Glad the Celebrex is helping! Yahoo!

Sorry your variables are up so soon.

One of my friends has decided he and his girlfriend are going to do the estate sale/Ebay route. We have two fellows who do estate tag sales and he frequents them and then looks stuff on on Ebay and claims he can get more than what he paid for certain items. I think that might be true in some cases, but not sure around here and as you noted, you are looking to see what is already listed and what is selling. I commented that he needed to actually look at the same items under "sold" and what they went for. He acted like I was an alien. I told him that just because someone has listed something for a certain price, that doesn't mean they will get it. He acts like he knows it all already and I think he's going to be left with having a bunch of stuff and no buyers. I'm glad you are smarter than this, CB.

I don't know if there is a Costco near you or on your traditional routes. I mention you needn't be a member of Costco to use their Pharmacy. Prices are typically lower for RX there because their pharmacist filling fee is lower than most others. You could call and ask about Celebrex and it's generic for a comparison. In my experience the price differentials in prescriptions is astounding. There are apps like My Pocket RX to assist consumers who are constantly ripped off on RX

I have 60 capusules and one refill -- my doctor does not want me on this drug long-term, because of my kidneys. So there will be only one more purchase to make in a couple of months. I will certainly try to get a better price. I was taken off guard -- didn't know the price until it was all done and rung up.

I do not have Part D; I have a Medicare Advantage plan. The reason being, most of the time I do not take any prescriptions at all.

I'm holding off any more listing on eBay til I get back from the cruise. I have a pair of Ked's on FB that I was trying to sell, and actually had one person express interest - but then disappeared. DH thinks I should try listing them on eBay - so I'll do that when I get back. Hopefully have some interest there.

Hope the Celebrex continues to help you!
