More of the Same

October 23rd, 2019 at 01:07 pm

Not much to report. I had several calls from the insurance company yesterday. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, because they are asking questions I've already answered. Mainly, they are trying to go after the other party to pay for repairs, and they will have to get that information from the police report. When I joined the scene, the driver was in handcuffs and yelling at the police, so I was hardly going to go up to her and say, "Hi, could I have your name and insurance information?"

No inspection has been done yet. I sent in the towing charge, but they told me I won't be reimbursed until the inspection is done. They will reimburse me for that and the $500 deductible at the same time. (Or whatever I get if the car is totaled.)

I did a load of laundry yesterday and I'll do one today. Variables are at 81%. Eight days to go.

I still have plenty of food on hand, but I'm out of creamer, on top of being low on dishwasher pods. If DIL loans me her car tomorrow, I will make a quick stop for those two items. As well as a stop at the library, because a book is due on Friday and it cannot be renewed (there's a hold on it).

I hope they get that sorted out soon for you. I know it takes time to sort it out but in the mean time you have items to do.
I know from experience that when with out a car even if I do not use it much, I feel somehow stir crazy and think I want to go here or there.

My policy does not allow for a rental car, though I could get a discount from Enterprise. But that's $19 per day, so I'm going to soldier through without a car. We have excellent mass transit in this area, and I have a ride-free card.

Why would they reimburse you for your deductible? Isn't the deductible the portion you pay? It does sound like the entire process is slow, but may it all work out in the end.

In California, your deductible becomes an uninsured motorist claim instead of part of the collision claim if the other party is not covered or can't be found. Going through that now with a minor fender bender. My insurance company figured out the guy who was responsible was an excluded driver on the car owner's policy and was not insured. My deductible will be paid as an uninsured motorist claim.

The accident happened in mid September. Minor cosmetic work took over a week once it was in the shop. Four weeks start to finish.

CCF, my understanding is that if they get the other insurance company to pay, it is not my responsibility to pay the deductible.

CB, I think that is right -- if the insurance company of the other person pays, then you shouldn't have to pay the deductible. Hope things start coming together because I'm sure this is frustrating that they are moving in slow motion.
