Window Washing & Thanksgiving Dilemma

September 28th, 2020 at 05:08 pm

The window washers are here. This time, for the first time, they are using long, long brushes rather than climbing on ladders. I applaud the company for the commitment to safety for their employees. It looks like I'll have to live with a few water spots, though, since there appears to be no wiping/drying process.

My brother called yesterday to talk about Thanksgiving. His son in Florida wants to come up and bring his new girlfriend. Before he buys plane tickets, though, he wants to know if there will actually be a gathering.

I am torn. I really, really want to see my brother and his family. But I know it's a risk, especially since his family seems much less concerned than I am about the spread of the virus. If I went, I would have to keep my distance, wear a mask, and wash my hands a lot!

Another reason I want to go is to see my man friend, whom I haven't seen since last Thanksgiving. Again, I would have to be careful with this visit. He is in a retirement home now, and his health is somewhat fragile.

Reason tells me to wait it out until there is a vaccine that will make life safer. But my heart is aching.

Anyway, I put myself down as a "maybe."

That is a call only you can make. I routinely get together with my family, but we are all pretty cautious about catching and sharing anything! Good luck with this decision!

I will be facing the same dilemma at Christmas. I anticipate some difficult discussions in the near future.

I am already accepting that I will be alone on the holidays.

We are doing ‘ok’ in Massachusetts, but our governor often points out that the clusters are coming from situations where familiar people in familiar settings get careless.

If you want to see your brother and your friend, you could visit at a time that involves much fewer people and a relatively short period of time.

But of course we all must make our own choices about risks.

I have been seeing my family with no qualms. The first couple months I kept away but life is too short to put your entire life on hold, especially not seeing family. I lost my grandpa and nephew in the past couple weeks not from Covid. But just a reminder to decide if fear of a virus with a low death rate with no end in sight is worth missing your family for a year +, especially if something was to happen and you don't get to see them ever again. Only you can decide. I have made my choice.
