Asthma?

March 18th, 2022 at 03:18 pm

I picked up the inhaler yesterday at Walgreens ($30) and also bought two packages of Poise pads for $29. I have re-learned that Poise is the best way to go -- the cheaper brands just don't work as well.

My doctor told me to use the inhaler before bedtime, since that is the worst time for my cough.  I tried it out last night -- it was my first ever go with an inhaler. I'm not sure I did it just right, but I did have a pretty good night. My doctor did not say the word "asthma" but I wonder if that's what's going on with me. If so, I'm happy to pay $30 a month to alleviate this eternal cough.

GS1's baseball started up again last night.  He's now on the high school freshman team.  He was not in the starting lineup so that was a bit of a disappointment.  I left at the fifth inning -- not because GS1 wasn't playing -- I'm happy to support the team -- but because it was SO COLD and I really wasn't dressed for it after such a deceptively warm day.

I got the body work done on the car and it was only $40.  I was pleased.  Also pleased with the work. They did manage to find matching paint so I don't have to worry about ordering some and doing it myself.

Variables are now at 69%.

Did your doctor suggest using a spacer with the inhaler? Helps a lot. There are videos on YouTube about how to use an inhaler with or without an inhaler. Do you know if the medication he put you on is a "rescue" medication (Albuterol is most common) or a "preventative" (e.g., Flovent or some other med beginning with Flo... or Flu... are fairly common)?

No, he didn't mention a spacer. Judging from last night's experience, I think I'll be okay, just have to get used to the sequence. The medication is Albuterol.

CB I thought about whether I should say this, and I decided that it was important enough to do so.

First, let me say that of course you know your doctor - the level of care he provides, how much you trust him, and what took place during your physical.

That being said, my impression is that you are a kind, trusting, non confrontational person.

It troubles me that you told your doctor about a cough and he offered you an inhaler and it seems you do not know the underlying reason for the cough. It might be asthma. It might be COPD. It might be something very scary that needs early treatment.

Did he order a chest X-ray or further tests or a follow up in a few weeks?

Please give this some thought and maybe discuss it with someone in your family or your BFF.

If I have crossed a line by saying this, I apologize, but you work at protecting your health and this seems important to me.

LOI, I had a chest x-ray about a year ago and it was normal. We will follow up in a few weeks to see how the albuterol is working; so far, that is looking good. Till now the assumption has been allergies, but neither winter nor my cat dying made any discernible difference. I do trust my doctor. He asked me all the right questions to rule out the scary stuff. But I thank you for your concern.

Mumof2, I have tried the pineapple juice, but, unfortunately, it didn't seem to help me much.
