A Popcorn Shortage

June 2nd, 2022 at 02:40 pm

I walked to Walgreens yesterday, intending to buy popcorn (kernels in the jar). They didn't have them last time I went, and they didn't have them this time either! I am missing my popcorn! While I was there, I bought body wash , creamer, and bread, all of which are getting low. I spent $13.  Variables are at 23%.  In just one day!

I didn't move my car yesterday. Today I may have to. I'm taking GS2 to the dentist. I'm going to propose walking there, but I'm prepared to drive if that idea doesn't fly. There has been very little action on the street repair, so I'm wondering if it will actually finish up on Friday. It seems like last time it took a whole week longer than predicted!

CB I have run into the same problem with popcorn in the jars or bags (unpopped). My regular grocery store has been out of it for weeks. I finally broke down and ordered a big jug (8 lbs.) of it from Amazon. It was a little bit more expensive but air popped popcorn is my only crunchy snack that I buy anymore.

Strange, I’ve added popcorn to my shopping list to pick up on my next trip, I hope I am able to get some.
Like you, I’ve been walking to nearby stores/facilities, it’s great exercise and I’m saving on gas.

CB, I bought popcorn at the start of the pandemic from either Target or Walmart. I bought two jars because I didn’t know what the food story would be, and I just opened the second one a couple weeks ago.

I looked on line today and they both seem to carry it - maybe check to see if it is in stock at a store near you?
They have free shipping with a $35 order and I buy enough from them so that works for me - I walk to grocery shop so I order non perishables online. For me, the prices are better there than in the stores I have access to. But you have a car so could maybe pickup?

    Good luck!

I have my bulk buy from costco bags a long time ago.

I have been thinking about getting a 25 pound bag of organic popcorn off of Amazon. I can package it up in 1 quart mylar bags with oxygen absorbers and put it in a bucket for long term storage, and keep out a quart at a time for popping. I have had some trouble finding it in the stores for a while now. I'm thinking of springing for the multi-color popcorn, but that costs a lot more for just a change in appearance.

In the past, I have had trouble popping kernels that apparently sat around too long. So I really don't want to buy big packages. I liked the Walgreens brand, because they had a quick turnaround. It was always fresh. But I guess it's an overall shortage, and I just have to wait until it's readily available again. Not like it's a necessity. Frown

Good advice about the kernels that sit around too long. I’ve had some for quite some time & I was wondering how hard they would be to pop. 🍿

Just checking to say I was able to pick up a jar and I found it to be expensive, $6. The bagged kernel was not available. I got mine from Walmart
