Food4Less

September 20th, 2022 at 06:16 pm

I went to Food4Less after my gym visit and spent $3 on produce and $6 on bleach. I had intended to get the bleach at Sam's, but they were selling it in packages of three big bottles -- honestly, I don't have the space and don't use it that much. So I got one bottle at Food4Less. Shocked at the price, though. When did bleach get so expensive?

The produce I bought -- from F4L's produce clearance shelf -- was 6 red peppers, 5 kiwis, and 3 pounds of yellow onions. Pretty pleased with that. I have chopped and frozen 4 of the peppers and roasted the other two -- I'll make roasted red pepper pasta tomorrow. Later I'll go through the onions to make sure they are all fresh. I think French onion soup is in my future. The kiwis I'll just eat once a day. I've already had one.

Today it's supposed to be hot -- though it hasn't gotten there yet. Then a cold front will pass through. I took an early morning walk to avoid both. We'll see what tomorrow brings. I'm ready for Fall.

When I was buying onions in bulk still, I was just slicing or dicing and freezing immediately. It always seemed like bagged onions, while the best deal, would go bad a lot faster, so freezing was just the best option. I would only leave two of the best ones out. But for making soup? Freeze them if you aren't going to do it immediately. Good score on the red bell peppers. They have gotten so expensive. As for the bleach, that got expensive when it came back on the shelves mid-Covid. Some of the stuff that says it is bleach in big letters says it isn't actually bleach in small letters. You really have to watch it. It is really a bleach substitute.

Everything is expensive everywhere lately! CB I have been following your entries where you have been holding off on buying certain items like your favourite maple syrup and I have been in the same boat lately! It seems like my shopping list is a combination of things we need to buy and things that we have run out but don’t need to be replaced immediately.. last week the list was at 10 items but by a fluke a lot of the items were on special so now there are only 3 items now. It’s fun to be creative but annoying to be in this situation at the same time..

You mentioned the price of bleach going up...I noticed that Borax skyrocketed as well.

    Good deal on your produce!
