Garage Sale Over

July 1st, 2008 at 03:01 am

My garage sale was held on Saturday. After subtracting the cost of the ad, it cleared about $135. My personal take was about $75. I bought dinner for my helpers, which was about $28. So I made about $47. That was a lot of work for $47, and leaves me wondering if it is worth it to do it again. Granted, it was my choice to buy dinner, but still. Right now I feel like using Freecycle and donating to Goodwill is a better way to deal with extra stuff. Certainly less stressful.

I put the paper money I earned in savings, but the bank wouldn't accept my coins unless they were rolled. That surprised me -- I am used to a bank with a coin counter, like Coinstar. So rolling them will be tomorrow's project.

I think I've given up having garage sales also. It's a whole lot of work for not a lot of money....$4.00 per hour! Plus when you give it to Good Will/Women's Shelter/whoever, you don't have to let a lot of stuff pile up, you can get rid of it quickly and get a tax deduction too.
