June Recap

July 1st, 2025 at 06:19 pm

It was kind of a crazy month, because I paid $423 in fees and services! Very unusual for me. It was mainly two big things -- the cost of renewing my passport, and the renewal of my service agreement with Best Buy for my laptop and phone. Which I need because I'm stupid about those two things. As for the passport -- I'm not sure if I need it, to be honest, but as I may have said before, I would hate to be without it if I needed it.

Housing and utilities were my other big expenses, but they were the usual. I also spent more than $150 on gifts, two birthdays and a graduation. But my groceries I kept under $100 -- $99 to be exact. And every other category is under that. My grand total was $2043, which is below my income -- what I always aim for.

Any moment now, my auto insurance premium will be withdrawn, and it's huge. $1976. A perfect storm of being old, being urban, and having caused an accident -- well, not really my fault, since it was a medical event, but still my responsibility; certainly not the other guy's. But I will pay it and be grateful that I can drive. This past year has shown me how hard it is to do without a car. So July will be pretty challenging in terms of staying below income. I have transferred funds from savings to cover it, because of the timing, but I hope to be able to transfer some or most of it back after my SS arrives mid-month.

So that's it! Another month of hunkering down!

I think you are smart to renew your passport.
Partly because as government services are cut the lead time to get one may increase.
Partly because even though little old White ladies like you and me are not likely to have to prove our citizenship now, we don’t know what is ahead and it’s good to be prepared.

I had my passport lapse before, and it was such an incredible headache to get it updated again. I had to go back to all my original documentations, including my birth certificates and such. I think, in the long run, it’s easier to just keep it updated.

Even with the one-off expenses, you did fine.

Smart move on renewing your passport! Changing my name on mine was a pain and I can only imagine if I had let it lapse!

I believe you'll work things out money wise, you are creative when you do. It's always fun to see how you have problem solved.
